Shree Bade Hanumanji Mandir, located near the confluence of the Ganga and Yamuna rivers at Sangam in Prayagraj (Allahabad), is a unique and revered temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman. History of Bade Hanuman Ji Temple:

  • According to legend, Hanumanji’s rebirth is linked to this place. After the battle in Lanka, Hanumanji was gravely injured and near death. Mata Janaki (Sita) gave him her vermilion here, blessing him with renewed life and immortality.
  • It is believed that devotees who take a dip in the sacred waters of Sangam must visit this temple to complete their ritual and attain the full benefits of the holy bath.
  • The temple’s history dates back to the 1400s, during the reign of Emperor Aurangzeb, who attempted to remove the statue. However, despite deploying 100 soldiers, the statue could not be moved, showcasing its divine power.
  • A remarkable feature of the idol is that it is partially submerged in water. During the monsoon, the rising water level is believed to touch the feet of Hanumanji, signifying the deity’s divine presence.
